The Michigan Women's Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame features over 250 historical and contemporary women of Michigan who have been inducted since 1983. This permanent exhibit offers highlights from the lives of each woman including Rosa Parks, Helen Milliken, Betty Ford, Lily Tomlin, Gilda Radner, Dorothy Comstock Riley, Mother Waddles, Jean "The Queen" Steinberg, Helen Thomas, former Lieutenant Governor Connie Binsfeld, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Aretha Franklin, and Governor Jennifer Granholm--and many more you may not have heard of, but whose accomplishments are equally impressive!

    Past and Present Exhibits
The Michigan Women's Historical Center develops and displays historical exhibits on the achievements of Michigan women. We are currently showing Resourceful Women: 30 Who Worked to Preserve Michigan's Water, Woods, and Wildlife. In September, 2010, we will open a history exhibit on suffrage to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the women's right to vote. In addition, the Michigan Women's Historical Center has a variety of exhibits that are ready to send on the road to museums, libraries, schools, and other institutions and organizations.

The Center is also home to the Elizabeth Belen Gallery, which features the work of Michigan women artists - including painters, sculptors, quilters, and photographers.

    Educational Efforts
Using its exhibits as a teaching tool, the Michigan Women's Historical Center brings women's history to life for school groups ranging from early elementary through college age, scout troops and many women's organizations from around the state. The Historical Center library houses hundreds of volumes by or about Michigan women. In addition, the Michigan Women's Studies Association, the Historical Center's parent organization, sponsors an annual academic conference in the spring to bring more visibility to women's roles in history and current issues in women's studies.
